Poop River and Transfers
Hey everyone! We had exchanges and transfers this week and I am currently waiting 15 hours for a bus😁😁😁😁
So we figured this would be the Great Scattering of my zone, Zona Metan, so we decided to have one last District/Zone Pday. We have 2 Hermanas finishing their missions and multiple Elders that have been here 3/4 transfers so guaranteed leaving. Didn’t do much for PDay, just went to Rosario and played board games cause it was rainy. After the Hermanas all left we had divisons with the 4 Elders in Rosario and just split Elder Baker and I into trios with the other 4.
We had crazy unexpected storms come in so Elder Baker and I didn’t have jackets with us. Elder Baker was able to borrow a spare rain coat and I found a trench coat in the apartment in which I look pretty dumb. I was walking around with the ZL’s and we found a temporary river from all the rain and even a small waterfall that was just runoff from the roads into this pretty poor part of the area. Also, because of the rain nobody wanted to talk to us so I didn’t really get anything out of exchanges except for it being fun. We got back to our area at like 4:30 am on Wednesday and it was DUMPING rain so Elder Baker and I got soaked.
After Exchanges, we just had a pretty bland week. The only cool thing that happened is this one lady we found. One of the members have been telling us about this reference that she has for us since my first comp, Elder Bigelow, but has never given it to us because she wants to talk to her first. Well, Elder Baker and I went looking for someone that was taught by the missionaries a long while ago and ended up knocking the reference’s door. We talked to her for a bit and realized that she was the reference. She has some good interest in the church but like 95% of people, getting her to church is like pulling teeth.
Elder Baker had to do Baptismal Interviews and so we found a good fallen tree to sit on for like 1 hour and there was a freaking HUGE spider.
We finally made the TikTok with the one inactive member. Lowkey cringey as nuts but whatever you gotta do to reactivate the members🤷♂️ I got to wear a cute little pink cowgirl hat. The member was showing us that she got a ton of followers from it. The only this is that she was out of town over the weekend so si o si she’s coming next week😭😭🙏🙏
WE FINALLY HAD SOMEONE COME TO CHURCH⛓️🔗💥💥⛓️🔗 Its the breakdancing guy Ricardo and he is the goat. Elder Baker and I have been dropping bomb lessons on him, especially Saturday night about the Plan of Salvation. He came to church yesterday and the Branch President was rizzing him up. Ricardo had some really good questions and so Prezzy Waldo Rosales was dropping bombshells of answers on him. We also had 2 other randoms come to church that have been randomly coming since forever but like 1 needs to get married and the other will randomly show up but not a member, so we will find them this week and get them dunked🌊🌊
But yeah, transfer news. Friday we were biting our nails all morning because we knew we were getting news but anything could’ve happened. All of the Elders thought there was a good chance I’m training this transfer but nay nay☝️. Elder Baker is leaving to go be Zone Leader on the opposite side of the mission and I am staying a 3rd transfer in JVG. My new comp, Elder Young, and Elder Baker were comps a while back and Baker says he’s a Goat. He looks like the evil, high pitched voice kid from iCarly and he’s from South Carolina. There is just a work off holiday today so Elder Baker and I left at 3:30am to Metan and then Elder Young and I are leaving to go back to JVG at 9:50pm because there are like no buses that are running today. We should be baptizing this transfer hopefully but overall it’s been good.
Spiritual Thought
While I’m cooking, I’ve been listening to this audio book called Mr. Mormon where this guy answers some good common questions that he asked when he wasn’t a member or when other people have asked him said questions. He talks about how after he converted, and was serving a mission, him and his companion were teaching an agnostic (“A person who claims that they cannot have true knowledge about the existence of God (but does not deny that God might exist)”) and a good question that he asked him and his comp rocked his comp’s testimony because he had an “intellectual” testimony rather than a spiritual testimony.
He goes onto say that to gain a true, unshaken testimony of the Church and the Book of Mormon, we must put to the test the promise of Moroni 10:3-4:
“3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.”
As missionaries we read this countless times to our investigators/ friends because it is so true! We must study and experiment on the word to gain a true testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I have gained this testimony and that is what I am sharing to everyone I can; that these things are true and that everyone can experience the same joy that only comes through Jesus Christ, and that I and countless others have felt. I’m so glad I am out here growing my own spiritual testimony and sharing it with others! Of course it is difficult but I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world!
