Cut Trees and Roots Settled

Hey everyone!!! Second week in the second area was really good and we should be having some baptisms here soon🌊💦💧

Pday:

All the Elders in our District came to our area because it’s only like a 30 minute bus ride. We went and got breakfast and then afterwards went shopping then played Monopoly. Then we started exchanges with the 2 Elders in the area just next to us.

Tuesday:

I was with Elder Bradshaw for exchanges who just finished his training but already almost has better Spanish than me. We had a lot of good lessons but walked a ton due to rain and people not living where we thought they did. Later in the day we got a message from the APs asking if they could stay at our apartment. I made burgers for them and then had a sleepover with Elder Young, my 3rd comp.

Wednesday:

We had Zone Conference and it was super good! We finally had the reunion of all the boys of District 16A that went to Salta. Still missing everyone else though from the GOAT district 🥲

The rest of the week because I can’t remember what day was which:

Élder Vargas and I cut down a tree of a random family we saw. They gave us Fanta in return and asked us if we could pray for their grandma. We gave her a blessing and she kept saying “Amen!” after anything my companion said during the blessing.

We also gave a blessing to the mom of an inactive member. She seemed really annoyed that we came over until after the blessing where she was super joyful.

We don’t know if a girl we are teaching is really excited about learning or if she’s a snake. (aka wants that Green Card and she will try to get it either by persuasion or by force) We taught her on Tuesday but she lives on a third story of an apartment building. She told us she there is no man that lives with her but then was like “but I made cookies and bought chips and prepared Mate for you” after we told her we can’t teach in her apartment if she lives w/o a man. She later brought said chips so idk.

A guy we’re teaching seems to be trying to live according to the Word of Wisdom. He is bipolar and I’m pretty sure uses substances to cope with it. It seems like he’s trying to stop though because he came to church yesterday visibly shaking the whole time (seemed like he was having withdrawals). So good thing but also withdrawals aren’t the best thing to be having.

That all being said those 2 and this guy named Miguel Oyarzu should get baptized soon. His whole family are members and he should get baptized this weekend if everything goes to plan.

Random kids keep asking me where I am from and then believe anything I say. I have said Japan a few times and they lose their minds.

Spiritual Thought:

Mosiah 7: 18-19

18 And it came to pass that when they had gathered themselves together that he spake unto them in this wise, saying: O ye, my people, lift up your heads and be comforted; for behold, the time is at hand, or is not far distant, when we shall no longer be in subjection to our enemies, notwithstanding our many strugglings, which have been in vain; yet I trust there remaineth an effectual struggle to be made.

19 Therefore, lift up your heads, and rejoice, and put your trust in God, in that God who was the God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob; and also, that God who brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, and caused that they should walk through the Red Sea on dry ground, and fed them with manna that they might not perish in the wilderness; and many more things did he do for them.

I love how King Limhi says in effect, including the rest of this chapter, “All of our efforts of ourselves have been in vain. The only way we can be freed from these taxes and bondage is through the Lord, so trust in Him and continue forward, and we will be freed.” There are so many instances in life where we are genuinely powerless to do anything of our own efforts, whether it be an addiction, trying to find joy over the loss of a loved one, fired from a job, or whatever it may be. There are many times in life the only way out of our personal “bondage” is to put our trust in the Lord. If He could perform all of these miracles during the Old Testament and then many more during His life here on Earth, why should we not believe that if we exercise faith in Him, He will perform miracles tiny in comparison, but eternally impactful personally in our lives

I love and miss you all! I would love to hear from you about what’s going on at home or wherever you may be! mwcurtis@missionary.org https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9K5EHgzbJLtD3wC8
