Mother’s Day
Not talking about USAs Mother’s Day, Argentina’s Mother’s Day.
So last week was Lock In Week so we could get some friends to church so they could get baptized this week, knowing this Sunday was Mother’s Day here in Argentina. All throughout the week we confirmed people coming to church, how they were gonna go, when they were gonna wake up, with whom would they go, etc.
On Thursday morning the APs called us saying we were gonna do AP exchanges on Friday morning. I was with one Elder Casajous. He’s from Buenos Aires and overall a good guy. Speaks good English but never puts it to use, but understands really well. We found some really good people that I hope will progress.
One lesson we did have throughout the week that was really cool was with our friend Celeste. We have been thinking about dropping her and her family but we get to her house and she comes out and we ask if she’s been reading any part of the BoM. She says she was reading a part about baptism and we got excited so we reread the part with her (2 Nephi 31 – the baptism of Jesus Christ) and ask her her thoughts. She says that because Christ was perfect but needed to be baptised, it shows an even greater need for us to be baptised. (Verse 5) I started talking about the priesthood and John the Baptist and she just goes “Elder I know the story. He had authority to baptize and we need to be baptized in the same way.”
We then asked her if she wanted to be baptized, explained the sacrament, and put her on date for the 25th of October.
Sunday no one came to church. We did everything legitimately possible. Saturday night we went to everyone’s house and no one answered except for Celeste who without prompt, told us the address and time of church and that no matter what she’d go, “even if it’s raining.” Then called everyone’s phone that night and still no answer. Sunday morning we went to knock on our friends’ doors. No answer.
Pretty boring week, but on another note Argentina is cracking down on being legal so we missionaries are rushing to get our papers done or we could get deported at any second, especially people like me with over a year here. So pray that I can get mind done soon 🙏
Spiritual Thought:
I had to give a talk on Sunday about Élder Gong’s talk in General Conference. I focused my talk on one quote from his talk.
“Rich blessings await [in the temple]. Please ‘do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end.’ Please do not deliberately delay the spiritual peace and joyful freedom Jesus Christ wants you to have now.”
In the temple we can learn of the divine Plan of Salvation that is centered on Jesus Christ that our Heavenly Father presented to us in the Premortal Life. In the temple we can feel the peace that comes from doing work for our ancestors. In the temple we can enter with questions about our lives and receive answers and peace to our minds concerning the question.
Praying for you all! mwcurtis@missionary.org
