They Took Him From Me!!!!

Guys it’s still raining a lot here. I’m literally just serving in AZ but everyone heckles me acting like they’re gonna get my opinion on global politics. Please email me. If you do you have my heart forever.

I’ll start off with the bad news. We got Emergency Transfers or Transfers of Inspiration, whatever you wanna call it, and my boy, Élder Vargas is leaving me. It is all Èlder Young’s fault. He got ripped from my arms in JVG and now he’s ripping Élder Vargas from my arms to be sent to La Quiaca.

But because we got ETs I got to talk to Élder Young this week so that was nice. An Élder Dye is coming. He’s a medio red head from the States and supposedly knows Spanish and if I’m Comp Mayor now (idk what it’d be in English) so I would like to say thank you to my 2 trainers/dads Élders Bigelow and Baker for teaching me all I know and then Élder Young for giving me this opportunity 😪

With whatever is going on in Iran with the US, I have had multiple people come up to us and just be like “Presidente Trump y Iran huh?” And then I have to explain that I have 0 clue what’s going on. They usually call me a liar and then I say “nuh uh” and then they are disappointed that I didn’t get offended or something and then leave.

We found a girl this week that Èlder Baker and Young taught here like a year ago and she seems like a crack. We found her on Tuesday and put her on baptismal date for the 22nd. She then did NOT come to church because she has a horrible habit of staying up till like 3-5am so yeah.

2 girls we are teaching, Araceli and Celina came to church with their aunt who’s a member for the second time yesterday so we could have 2 baptisms this week but we’ll see. For sure they’re getting dunked this month but this week is a maybe.

We regained contact with Pablo and Estefania. Estefania came to an activity and we talked to Pablo the other day at his house and then was going to come to church yesterday but slept in. To make up for it though he is coming to the bus terminal supposedly to say goodbye to Élder Vargas so we’re back on.

There’s a street where there’s a bunch of kids that ask me to do magic because Élder Baker was here a year ago and showed a magic trick he does with his ring so I have to keep telling them “next time”.

So much rain. It has rained every day this week except for the one day we bring our stuff for the rain. Literally said 100% chance of rain and the clouds outside looked mean so we bring our coats and umbrellas and then all of the clouds disperse and it got hot and sunny😊😊 One day we were in a lesson and it started pouring rain and when we were going to leave there were rivers in the street so we had to call a taxi and awkwardly wait and this amigos house till he came.

Spiritual  Thought:

Many times in these past 7 weeks with Élder Vargas, he has shared (because it’s one of his favorite scriptures) and has been brought up many times in random talks that I’ve read or talks in church Alma 37:6-7🤔

6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.

7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.

It’s a scripture that speaks for itself. It’s through the sma, simple, everyday things that greats things are brought to pass. We pass through trials, sufferings, tribulations through the small things that include the Lord like scripture study, prayer, and church attendance. I love the last line as well that by through these small and simple things does the salvation of many souls come about. On the mission, a random, small conversation in the middle of the street could bring someone to baptism, through the small things that I mentioned do we invite the companionship of the Spirit into our labor here. Outside of the mission but still being a missionary, small, consistent invitations to church or activities can help someone come to a knowledge of the truthfulness of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I love and pray for you all! Thank you for any emails at mwcurtis@missionary.org or join my Google Photos https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9K5EHgzbJLtD3wC8

With love,
– Élder Curtis
