Big Area 70
Hey everyone! Sorry I missed last week’s email. Was busy on P-day and then had to prepare for Zone Conference.
We’ve been working our butts off the past 2 weeks and it will pay off this week. Last week we met a few people that came to church this week and should get baptized this upcoming Sunday.
Santiago is still progressing and we just confirmed that he will be baptized this next Sunday afternoon. His parents should also come to church that Sunday as well because we want the dad to get baptized soon as well.
Gonzalo finally came to church yesterday. We should get him and his kids in the water Sunday morning. We are gonna teach him the commandments tonight so pray that he doesn’t have any huge issues. He has been reading and praying and really does want to change his life around.
Last Saturday we found, or more like we were found, by this guy named Donna. We were walking and someone randomly said something in English, which isn’t a hugely common occurrence. We stopped and talked to him and he has pretty good English, so we taught him super quick and gave him a BoM. We honestly forgot about him till like last Friday and sent him a message. Turns out he’s read a bit of the BoM and loves it, especially the photos for some reason. We went to his house Saturday and taught him and invited him to prepare for baptism next week. He goes “sounds good to me! Can I go to church tomorrow?” And we tell him about Sunday and he sets 8 alarms then and there to go to church. He went and the Elders Quorum I think already added him and Gonzalo to the group chat. After church Donna sent us a message saying how much he loved church and how he just wants to go more and more.
We found a bunch more people and hopefully they will progress soon. Hopefully we’ll have minimum 3 baptisms this week and maximum like 6.
This week we had Zone Conference with Elder Walker of the Seventy. Zone Conferences are always nice because you get to see your friends but there were also some good talks. Afterwards we had MLC also with Elder Walker and we got some good insights from him on the missionary work.
Spiritual Thought:
In preparation for Zone Conference, Elder Walker had us read Alma 23:4-6 and prepare a talk using those verses. I spoke on the spirit of prophecy and of revelation. The spirit of prophecy is pretty straight forward as we read in Revelations 19:10
“…for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
If we testify of Jesus Christ, we have the spirit of prophecy. Someone told me once that if you testify of Jesus Christ in any appropriate setting, you will feel the Spirit. I have seen that so often in my mission.
The spirit of revelation is a bit more complicated but Elder Bednar and Elder Holland both have talks on it. Bednar’s: The Spirit of Revelation and Holland’s: Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence.
Basically we all have the right to the spirit of revelation as we try to honor God’s will and do the spiritual work necessary to receive revelation. The Sons of Mosiah didn’t just convert thousands because of good public speaking skills. They fasted, prayed, diligently searched the scriptures, and honored the covenants they made in order to receive the revelation they needed.
