A Dunk and A Ladder Climber

Whatuuuuuuuupppppp everyone 😁! I hope you all are doing amazing! I just got transfered but more on that in a second. Tell me how you are doing😄 please.

This week wasn’t too crazy until Saturday. We were just preparing for Irma’s baptism. She was super duper ready but just needed a few last things knocked out.

On Friday we had a pretty dope pancake and karaoke activity. I got a pancake recipe thanks to Élder Dye and everyone loved them. 3 random like 12 year olds came and annoyed everyone and especially annoyed me because they just asked for more pancakes but I stopped after giving them 2 each☺️

Some 3 unrelated 13 year old kids yelled that they were going to assault me and then promptly did not do it. I was kinda wanting it to happen to see if I could beat 3- 13 year olds in a fight.

Irma’s baptism on Sunday was awesome. She had to get baptized sitting down because there wasn’t enough water but she got baptized and then the meeting was really spiritual. I got to confirm her and it was a cool experience.

Saturday though was when tragedy struck. I was in the middle of a lesson, on transfer news day, when the APs called me🥶🥶🥶 After the lesson (we put Jennifer on date for the 13th) we called the APs back and I got put on to ZL😭 pretty nuts considering the closest I’ve gotten is District monkey for my first 3 transfers. I’m going to Perico in JuJuy which is like pretty nice. Probably the closest I’ll get to US living. My zone has like 16 Sisters and 6 Elders so that’s chill. My companion is one Élder Payne. He has 2 transfers in this area and goes home in August. Also my trainer Élder Bigelow is coming to my area and he is training so I get a little bro in the mission which is pretty cool.

Saying goodbye to everyone in Pichanal was pretty sad ngl. I thought I’d be there for a little bit longer. Carlos is about to get married and Jennifer is si o si getting baptized. Élder Quispe and I worked really hard and the last Sunday we got 5 investigators and 11 converts in church which I haven’t seen yet on the mission. There were a few families that were pretty dope that I grew close with, but that’s the mission I guess.

Last night we traveled to my old area of Pizarro to take a bus from there today and at 2pm. It was cool because today is Dia da Patria so the ward I served in did a little event where I got to see 2 of my converts and a bunch of members that I got to know.

Spiritual Thought:

This transfer I have really seen a theme of the “Light of Christ” in my studies. I got to give a talk on that in church for my final testimony. It mentions the Light of Christ so much in the scriptures and if it is just talking about light, it can most likely be related to the Light of Christ. My favorite parts of the Light of Christ is that Christ called us the “light of the world” (Matthew 5:14) but then he reaffirmed that “I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed.” (3 Nephi 18:24)

My second favorite mention of the “Light of Christ” is found in D&C 50:24

“That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.”

Basically Christ should be the center of all we do. If we serve, we are not the center of attention. Christ should be the focus of the service. Christ, the life and the light of the world, can illuminate our lives as we grow closer and closer to him. We cannot achieve perfection in this life, but we can trust that we can have a perfect day, because Christ rose on the 3rd day. He is risen in a perfected body that we will one day receive along with a perfect faith and perfect brightness of hope.

I love you all! Please lmk what are your plans for summer! Right now it is 50⁰ where I live so I keep thinking it’s like January/February. mwcurtis@missionary.org and https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9K5EHgzbJLtD3wC8
