Fetch Catholic Grandmas
Good day to everyone! I hope you have been well this past week. I have had some really cool experiences and I would love to tell you about them. Please tell me about your week 😭😭
There is this kid on date for this week and it’ll be a fight for him to get baptized. He keeps talking to his Catholic family which keeps telling him he needs to learn more about the church before getting baptized so then he thinks that. He’ll say that, but then when we ask if he has prayed and read (opportunities to learn about the church) he hasn’t done them. Catholic grandmas are bums.
First day we found a Columbian named Elias Lopez (made me think of the boys of 16A) and put him on date but then couldn’t find him the rest of the week.
We testified about the true church to this one lady and related it to how I’m a picky eater but I had to try what is now my favorite food to know it is my favorite food. Left her “astonished” (Mosiah 27:19) as I invited her to pray about the BoM but then she didn’t come to church so we’ll see with her.
We also testified that although striving to keep the commandments is hard at times, the way in which we are able to keep those commandments and reap the blessings from them makes the effort and time worth it. We’re gonna go this week to that guy’s house and dedicate it.
We found this guy named Luciano. He’s like 20 and both of his parents died fairly recently and he has been struggling with that. Now he lives alone and doesn’t have water or electricity in his house because he has to pay for everything by himself. We had a super cool lesson with him where I testified of eternal families and the Restored Church. He came to church yesterday so we just gotta get him to stop smoking (He wants more “wisdom” and it’s almost like there is something called the Word of Wisdom or something like that) I’m excited to help him find hope and hopefully get baptized.
Found a guy on Saturday named Pablo. We were looking for his dad and/or sister and he came out. We asked if he’s interested in hearing a message. He said no, went and looked for his dad and sister who were both not at home, came back out and said he decided he was interested in growing closer to God. Testified to him that we need to choose now to follow Jesus Christ, repent, and endure to the end, because if we don’t do it now, then we will just push it off and then never make the decision. He also came to church yesterday so we will see with him.
I am in a ward now and it’s pretty cool. The ward doesn’t depend on us as missionaries like it’s self functioning but they do support us a ton. Right now there is a lot of YSA in the ward and the majority of who we are finding are YSA so they are super helpful in the work.
I sang “Love Story” by Taylor Swift at a YSA Karaoke activity.
BAPTISM
Yes we did get a baptism this week. His name is Benjamin and he is a GOAT. Super close already with all of the YSA and is a super good singer. He’s been struggling with some stuff so it was awesome to see him get baptized and will have even more help with the stuff that is going on in his life.
Spiritual Thought:
Because it was my first Sunday in this ward, I got to share a brief testimony and I shared 2 Nephi 31:18-21. It is a powerful end to the chapter where Nephi just drops bomb after bomb about the Doctrine of Christ. I love how he asks that if we have been baptized, “I would ask if all is done?” Then he goes into a bit about who we need to keep faith in Christ and endure to the end. Those are the first and last principles of the Doctrine of Christ and after baptism, the ones that are hardest to keep. I have met sooooo many converts on the mission that have lost one of the 2 and then fell away or have gone inactive from the church. The Doctrine of Christ is an infinite cycle of keeping our faith, daily repentance, renewing our covenants, and enduring to the end. If we keep these things, ”“thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.” (2 Nephi 31: 20) Keep praying, reading, attending Sacrament meetings and the temple, and you will achieve the promised land; the Celestial Kingdom.
I love you, God loves you, Jesus loves you. Have a great week. Tell me about yours. mwcurtis@missionary.org https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9K5EHgzbJLtD3wC8
