Half way through the transfer and 9 months in the mission is pretty wild! Please send me an email of how you are doing back at home! mwcurtis@missionary.org
So last P-day we had to work a tiny bit because we were trying to get Yanina married but then they didn’t show up to the place 😭😭 because they had an out of the blue parent-teacher conference. Then they invited us over for their daughter’s “Birthday Party” which was just their family and us 2 sitting there and then ate 2 hours after the time they told us we would.
Then on Tuesday we tried to go in again and get them married but it didn’t happen because the lady there did not tell us about some necessary paperwork to get them married. Then she proceeded to have an attitude and yell at us about some information she never told us about. I almost lived up to the Curtis name with that situation but decided to try to be more Christlike and not chew this lady out😊😊😊
Wednesday nothing much happened except for teaching Irma, the mom of a convert here. Irma is 100% getting baptized soon, mark my words. I just pray that when we invite her to do so she does not pull a “but I just wanna keep learning the church”. Also I got to talk with the new Branch President here and he is a GOAT. He is from Chile and served in my mission and specifically in my area. He’s super hyped about working and is trying to be included in what we do so that’s pretty dope.
Thursday we kinda only passed by converts which was not really that planned but we have a lot of recent converts (less than a year after baptism) so we have been working a lot with them trying to get a few reactivated. We also got to help spread a huge pile of dirt at the house of some member kids.
Friday we didn’t do much besides prep for our activity. I taught an English class and for some incentive made 3 batches of cookies. When we brought up the activity to our Branch President, he asked if I could teach an English class every week so we will see what happens with that. The activity went well and got quite a few people to show up.
Saturday we found this girl we’ve been looking for for a while. Idk how my comp and his last comp found out about her but she’s this 17 y/o who owns her own store, house, and 2 motorcycles. Her dad is a member in my last area somewhere but the rest of her family don’t have any religion because they had some bad experiences with churches and tithing. We taught her and her boyfriend that we pray isn’t living with her and they were like “oh we’ll go to church tomorrow” which is pretty Boy Who Cried Wolf here. Later we helped move some stuff in an apartment building that a lady in the ward owns. She’s gotta be super rich because she owns like an entire street corner which is like 5 stores and an apartment building.
Sunday was awesome. We had 7 people who we are teaching come to church. The sacrament room was completely full partially due to the fact that an Elder who served here 25 years ago came to visit with his son. His son finished his mission in Buenos Aires about when I got to Argentina. It was cool to speak English to someone and see some history of this branch. Testimony meeting was super spiritual and then after church they had a big dinner to celebrate this missionary and his son.
Spiritual Thought:
I love in Alma 27: 16-19 it talks about when the sons of Mosiah see Alma after 14 years. I kinda laughed reading this the other day because it says how joyful Ammon is and then is basically like “yeah Alma and the brethren of Ammon were very joyful, but not as joyful as Ammon.” And I think Ammon was so joyful not only because of seeing his friend Alma, but because he knew of what a huge impact they had on the Lamanites and how many people they brought to Christ. He was already so, so joyful over the work they had done as he talks about in the chapter before, but seeing an old friend just made him lose his strength because of how joyful he was. The missionary work is so joyful. Of course there are hardships and trials but they don’t compare to seeing someone be converted to the Lord.
I love you all so much. If you have a minute, let me know how you’re doing mwcurtis@missionary.org or join my Google Photos https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9K5EHgzbJLtD3wC8
